Timbercity Cycle Tour Returns on November 10th!

Get ready for the 13th edition of the Timbercity Cycle Tour, taking place on November 10th, with cycling distances of 100km, 50km, and 24km. Registration is open until November 4th, so be sure to secure your spot! The event will start at Route 62 Pub & Grill, 44 Baron van Rheede Street, Oudtshoorn.

The Timbercity Cycle Tour is a prestigious Cape Town Cycle Tour Seeding event, renowned as the jewel of cycling in the Western Cape. Attracting top riders from across the country each year, the event is celebrated for its excellent organization and extensive coverage, including features on Supersport’s Cadence programme.

The race is part of Cycling SA’s National Series, allowing riders to earn points toward improving their national rankings. Unique to this event is the street mile competition for top men and women, providing an opportunity to compete in both the street mile and road seeding event in a single day, with prize money awarded in each category.

Notable participants include David Bellairs, head of the Cape Town Cycle Tour, who has confirmed his participation again this year—the Timbercity Cycle Tour is the only seeding event he rides personally.

Gayton McKenzie, Minister of Sport, Art and Recreation and Ricardo Mackenzie, Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, will also be attending, along with high-profile representatives from the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS). The Oudtshoorn Municipality is also a proud supporter, as the event draws around 1,200 spectators, cyclists, and their families to the area.

With a route that winds through the picturesque Swartberg, the Timbercity Cycle Tour is a favorite among cyclists and tourists alike, with the Oudtshoorn Tourist Bureau assisting riders with accommodation.

Top athletes are already confirmed, including riders from ASAP Cycling Team, DSV SHIFT Academy’s Noah September and Ethan Kulsen, and Realty Dynamix Team’s five-time winner Theuns van der Bank. Though Anriette Schoeman, seven-time Cape Town Cycle Tour champion and eleven-time winner of the Timbercity event, has retired, her legacy continues to inspire.

The Timbercity Cycle Tour has contributed significantly to the recognition of Western Cape Cycling and Eden Cycling as top federations for their work in transformation and development. Alan Winde, Premier of the Western Cape, recently commended Eden Cycling for their efforts. The event’s organizer, Corne Bence, has been named Administrator of the Year four times in the Western Cape and has received Ministerial awards for his contributions to cycling at the international, national, provincial, and regional levels.
