You will need:
- Tape Measure
- Pencil
- Compass
- 100 grit sand paper
- Hardwood PAR (Planed all round)
- Jig Saw
- 12cm Terracotta planting pots
- 12mm Spade drill bit
Cut List:
Hardwood PAR
- 1000mm x 144mm x 22mm (x3)
Step by Step Instructions:
Step 1:
Marking the centre positions of the pot holes. You will use Hardwood PAR pieces 1000mm x 144mm x 22mm (x3).
Put the first piece of Hardwood 1000mm x 144mm x 22mm down flat on your work surface. Using your measuring tape mark 250mm, 500mm and 750mm down the length of the wood. Now mark the centre of the width of the wood for each of these positions at 250mm, 500mm and 750mm to find the centre position of each pot hole. Repeat this process for the remaining two hardwood pieces.
Step 2:
Marking the circle cut-out. You will use Hardwood PAR pieces 1000mm x 144mm x 22mm (x3).
You are now ready to draw the circular lines that will act as guides when cutting the wholes with the jig saw. Please keep in mind that the 12cm size of the pots refer to the inside measurement of the pot at the top. In order for the pots to sit perfectly all holes need to be 12cm in diameter. Set your compass to 6cm, place the needle on the centre position marked in step 1 and draw each of the 9 circles.
Step 3:
Drilling the jig saw entrance hole. You will use Hardwood PAR pieces 1000mm x 144mm x 22mm
Use the 12mm spade drill bit to drill an entrance hole for the jig saw blade. These holes should be positioned in such a way that the side of the hole touch the circular line in one place.
Step 4:
Making the cut. You will use Hardwood PAR pieces 1000mm x 144mm x 22mm (x3).
You are now ready to cut the circles out with a jig saw. Place the blade of the jig saw through the entrance hole drilled in step 3. Now cut out the circle, turning the jig saw as you move along the line until you reach the entrance hole again.
Step 5:
Drilling the rope holes. Hardwood PAR pieces 1000mm x 144mm x 22mm (x3).
Mark two positions on both ends of each of the hardwood pieces for the rope holes. These holes should be marked 2cm from each side. Once marked, drill the hole using the same 12mm spade drill bit.
Step 6:
Finishing.
Now sand all areas with 100 grit sand paper for a smooth finish. You can now apply a coating of your choice. It would be best to apply an external wood sealer. Leave to dry overnight before securing ropes for hanging.
