  • Chipboard Screws 4.0mm x 50mm
  • 2.0mm Drill bit
  • Counter sink bit

Cut List:

Pine PAR

  • 396mm x 32mm x 32mm (x4) – Vertical sides (frame)
  • 1100mm x 32mm x 32mm (x4) – Horizontal sides (frame)
  • 466mm x 32mm x 32mm (x5) – Horizontal sides (frame) and top centre top support

Laminated Pine

  • 1100mm x 530mm x 22mm (x1) – Top

Step by Step Instructions:

Step 1:

Building the bottom frame. You will use Pine PAR pieces 466mm x 32mm x 32mm (x2) and 1100mm x 32mm x 32mm (x2).

This frame will be built by putting the 2 short pieces between the long pieces and fastening the frame together with screws and wood glue.

Start by holding 1100mm x 32mm x 32mm on top of 466mm x 32mm x 32mm to form a 90-degree angle. While holding in place, drill pilot holes, then counter sink the holes before applying wood glue where the wood will connect. Now fasten with chipboard screws 4.0mm x 50mm. Repeat this process with the other half of the frame (1100mm x 32mm x 32mm on top of 466mm x 32mm x 32mm). Now connect the two similar halves of the frame to form the full bottom frame.

Step 2:

Building the top frame and inserting the top support. You will use remaining Pine PAR pieces 466mm x 32mm x 32mm (x3) and 1100mm x 32mm x 32mm (x2).

The first part of step 2 is essentially a repetition of step 1.

Use a measuring tape to find the middle of the frame at 550mm on both sides and mark with a pencil. Now insert the top support 466mm x 32mm x 32mm in the middle of the frame and fasten with screws from the side. Your top frame is now complete.

Step 3:

Joining the top and bottom frames together. Use Pine PAR 396mm x 32mm x 32mm (x4).

Take the first piece 396mm x 32mm x 32mm and hold it in place vertically. Now place the first corner of the top frame on top of the one end of the first vertical side 396mm x 32mm x 32mm. This can be a little tricky so it is best supporting the top frame on the other end. Make sure the joining parts are perfectly aligned. Hold in place while drilling pilot holes. Counter sink the holes before applying wood glue and fastening with chipboard screws 4.0mm x 50mm. Repeat this process to insert the remaining 3 vertical sides.

Turn the top frame (with vertical sides now attached) upside down with the vertical sides pointing upwards. Place the corners of the bottom frame on top of the ends of the 4 vertical sides. Hold in place, drill pilot holes and counter sink. Now apply wood glue and fasten with screws. Your Coffee Table frame is now complete.

Step 4:

Fastening the table top. Use Laminated Pine 1100mm x 530mm x 22mm (x1)

Place the table top upside down on your work surface. Now place the top part of the frame (with the top support) on top of the table top. This will allow you to secure the table top from the bottom of the coffee table. Make sure that the top and the frame is perfectly aligned all-round. Hold in place, drill pilot holes and counter sink. Now apply wood glue and fasten with screws. Make sure you use chipboard screws 4.0mm x 40mm to prevent screws from penetrating all the way through the top.

Step 5:

Finishing.

Building of your Coffee table is now complete. Apply wood filler to the screw tops and any uneven joints and allow to dry for a few hours. Now sand these areas and the rest of the wood with 100 grit sand paper for a smooth finish. You can now apply a coating of your choice. We decided to use an aerosol spray paint in a black gloss finish for the frame. The top was coated with a clear matt wood sealer.
